It is possible to use a single Part Number as the primary Material and "Alias" other Part Numbers to that primary record. This can be useful when different buildings assign unique part numbers to the same Material, for example. When you Alias a Part Number to another, it means that any usage input with the part number that is aliased will use the information from the Master part number record to complete calculations.

You can alias a Part Number to a different Part Number in the system, from the Material record. Either click on "Resolve Calculation Errors" on the Usage Inputs table or navigate to the Sources index by following these steps:

1. Click on the company icon in the top right corner of the page:

2. Click "Sources" from the Admin menu:

3. Use the "Add New" button on the right.  Select a new "Material":

4. Complete the form as necessary and make sure to click "Save" before continuing:

5. Return to the sources menu and locate the material that you just created for aliasing, click "Edit":

6. Use the search box or drop down menu to look up the Part Number that you would like to alias to the new Material you are creating:

7. Once you select the Part Number, the system will ask you to confirm the Alias. If you click "Submit" the "Aliased" form will close and moving forward any usage records will use the new "Master" part number:

If a part number has alias, instead of the option to link to new Part Numbers - the record will show a button that says "View Linked Materials". You can view the aliased part numbers and undo any existing links from the Master part number record.

To unlink an Alias, click the red icon button and all usage records will be unlinked to the Master:
